LBH 2011 Summer Camp
The LBH Summer Camp provides educational activities to combat summer learning loss for 35 children and youth, ages 4-15. Campers go on field trips and participate in neighborhood activities in order to gain experiences both inside and out of the community in which they live. Participants this year will go to the beach, visit museums, visit a working farm, go to the Montgomery County Fair and will participate in reading sessions with author Marfe Ferguson Delano. Math will also be a primary focus this summer.
Everyday at the LBH, we measure our kids in socialization, verbalization, and impulse control.
LBH Fall 2011 Out-of-School Time Program
We are certified by DC Public Schools as an Out-of-School Time Provider. Stay tuned for information regarding our program for the 2011-12 school year.
Program Outlines
The LBH has three standard program outlines that offer the best chances for our families to achieve self-sufficiency and our children to develop socially and academically to the fullest extent of their own abilities.
Fall-Spring Out-Of-School Time
This school-year program is, along with summer camp, the primary platform for implementing LBH's mission. This program focuses on working with children in the areas of socialization, verbalization and impulse control. We ensure that all of our children get the appropriate check-ups, counseling or vaccinations needed that may be barriers to success in school.
LBH Winter, Spring, and Summer Camps
These vacation-time programs offer an intensive opportunity to help children develop social, verbal, and behavior skills, and to grow emotionally and psychologically through relationships of trust and understanding with LBH staff. Each of these programs is flexible to change and grow with the population we serve.
The camps are a great way to help parents in our program as well, because daycare can be very expensive and many parents in our program need to work full-time in order to support their families.
Parent program
This platform connects TANF-eligible parents with peer mentors to raise knowledge and skills for early childhood development and education and parenting.
LBH programs are designed to identify families in need of assistance before there is a crisis, and address the gaps between the family needs and services currently available to families in Washington, D.C. Our clients - parents and youth - as well as funders, colleagues, and the public can be sure that the role we play in the community is meaningful, productive, and worthy of reciprocal energy and dedication.
