The Little Blue House is an award-winning agency, recognized by many organizations for our contributions to the community. Some commendations we have received are:
- Honored by Bank of America 2007 Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards - "Local Heroes"
- Honored by Newsweek as a "Hometown Heroes" - July 2006 - visit www.newsweek.com/id/46633?tid=relatedcl for full article.
- Honored for excellence as one of 78 local charities included in the 2004 Catalogue for Philanthropy
- Carl Foster named 2003 Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian magazine
- Frederick Douglass Men of Strength Award (2003), given by Men Can Stop Rape, a DC-based organization
- Washington Redskins NFL Community Quarterback Award (2001)
- Good Neighbor Award (2000), given by the Fannie Mae Foundation for exemplary service to the homeless.
- Selected by Washingtonian magazine as one of 16 well run but not well known charities (December 2000)
- One World Award (1998), given to Carl Foster by the National Conference for Community and Justice (formerly the National Conference of Christians and Jews) for his service as the unpaid, full-time executive director of The Little Blue House.
- Regional Media Recognition Award (1998), given by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments for significant contribution to the social, infrastructure or environmental concerns of the region.
